My New Mission

I know I haven't blogged in a while when I go to my blog and it doesn't recognize me as the writer.
It's even worse when I want to go read the other blogs I follow and my own Google account doesn't know me.  That hurts.

So I saw this quote in the Geek section of Pinterest a couple days ago.

"I think the point of the Frodo-Sam relationship is not that we are to look for our Sam, but that we are supposed to be Sam for others."

And if you're reading this and you don't get the reference I will pray for you. really. hard.

I really like that and it's given me a new mission in life right now.  It yanks the perspective away from you and places it on others.  I should be focusing on how to be a loyal, honest, self sacrificing, always-be-there-for-you friend for other people.  That's the only thing I can control.  So that's what I'm going to do.

And this whole thing reminded me of a conversation, one that I've never thought of since I had it.  I was moping a stair way, a 4 stories plus basement stair way, with a couple people.  We were talking about regular nerd stuff like Lord of the Rings, and I asked the typical question "Who is your favorite character?"  Everyone answered and then a better question was asked "What character have you learned the most from?"  One answer was Sam, because he showed what friendship really was.
I don't know, it just reminded me of that and it made me smile.

On the topic of friends, I may have actually made a Sam move last week and watched a Tinkerbelle movie with a friend, because she loves it, I even kept sarcastic comments to a minimum.  It was a good step one.
