Reflction In My Sword

Reflection In My sword

A face is staring back at me
A reflection in my sword
I’m not what I appear to be
In a glassy space
The truth of me is shown
In the pass
Of the steel before my face

Have you ever looked at your reflection in a sword?  Maybe you haven't, most people don't even got to hold a sword in their life, I guess.  But just as you can look at yourself in a mirror, the shiny steel of a sword also shows your reflection.  It is strange to think about.  I have no idea why, but for some reason I think it is kind of metaphorical.  The fact of actually holding a sword to begin with, is symbolic.

The true "you" is found in the appearance of your actions and character and speech, not in a mirror.  If you are locked in a battle, how you fight is a reflection of you.  Like when I sword fought over the summer.  I knew a guy who fought with wild energy and ferocity.  That's who he was.  My friend fights with precision and grace, along with apprehension.  That's who she is.  Someone else I know uses wide laid back strokes and there is always a smile on his face.  That's who he is.

All of this, of course, is just a parallel with the truth that the you that is really you, isn't on the surface, but much deeper than that.  It can be found when you look into God's Word, fight your daily battles, and know the gospel.

Look at your reflection in your sword.
