This is my first "real" post and I want to get to the heart of this blog. It is named The Rose and the Sword to symbolize certain things. The rose symbolizes lovely and gentle womanhood, and the sword symbolizes the battle against the powers of darkness, as well as adventure and skill. As women we are called by God's Holy Word to balance these two things. I know they seem totally opposite, but melded together they create a shining beautiful picture of Biblical femininity.
One without the other would create an extreme.
The rose by itself would make girls out to be surrounded by a pink bubble. This type of girl is sweet, shy, and is not touched by a speck of dirt. She is basically useless, except as an ornament and an ornament maker. She can make things look beautiful, but ask her to lift a wheelbarrow, or scrub a floor and she crumples into a mass of lace and silk. Am I painting a vivid picture here?
The sword alone would create a rebellious, thrill seeking woman, independent from her Creator and men. She has abandoned her role as a wife and mother and seeks only selfish pleasure in beating men in the arena. She can protect herself and get down and dirty, but ask her to speak tenderly to the broken-hearted, or arrange a vase of flowers for her table and she runs for the hills.
So these are the two extremes. I strive to find the perfect combination of the two, and I will post my thoughts on this blog. I personally struggle with the sword and no rose, but God is changing my heart. I don't have the formula to the exact balance, and the day I know I do, is the day I need to repent! Alright, in the next post I will be using some Bible verses to give us a guide as to balancing the rose and the sword.
