We are all different color roses, God made us that way, yet do you ever find yourself wishing you were a different color? Yeah, you and almost every other conscious teenage girl. The heart of this issue is discontentment and a lack of trust in our Creator.
I have met handfuls of pretty girls and women and I have yet to find one that would say “I am happy with the way I am made”. Tall girls want to be shorter. Short girls want to be taller. Girls with straight and curly hair envy each other. Girls with glasses hate them and girls who have 20/20 vision wish for frames. Why? The grass is always greener on the other side. Trust me I am not perfect here, I have struggled for years with “looking beautiful”. I constantly battled to be a color rose I simply was not.
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay?... Romans 9:20-21
It turns out that before the day of our salvation, we were all the same color, black. Smeared with sin, we were filthy and hideous, no matter how pretty we were on our skin. But God loved us anyway and He felt compassion for His wretched little flowers covered in the mud of their own sin natures. And the day we realized that, and put our trust in Him, He transformed us into a sweet, blooming white rose, spotless and untouched. Isn’t that such a beautiful picture? So we are all that same color, white.
“ Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD, “ Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Isaiah 1:18
When we realize the glorious transformation that took place in our heart, we should be content. It is not a pretty face that gets us into heaven, but a heart that Jesus Christ has washed clean with His blood. So why should we care what the outward petals are like, if it isn’t of any consequence? But “other people” can’t see our heart, they only see the outside, and we are scared that if the outside isn’t the right color other people will….what? What can they do? What can they say? We are not meant to be pleasing other people, we are meant to give glory to God!
And once you start focusing on Him (I know this sounds corny but…) you will start to be beautiful. The beauty that starts inside and radiates out through every pore of your body. You won’t know it is there and other people will see it, some may tell you about it, but don’t focus on it, keep looking on the One that deserves all the focusing.
I have come to realize that The Great Potter has made me just the way He wants me. I am blessed with a 5’ stature, wavy, wild hair, and thick glasses and you know what? I don’t really care, if those are the characteristics God knew I would need to fulfill His work, so be it.
So rejoice my fellow roses, we are made beautiful beyond compare by the our Lord and Savior. To Jesus Christ be all the praise
