Came across this beautiful song yesterday when I bought the "Music Inspired by the Story" album, songs inspired by the characters of the Bible sung by the best of CCM. I couldn't help but think of Kate the Great when I heard it and after a second listen the message of the song really hit me.
Adam:
If I could, I’d rewrite history
I’d choose differently; if I could, I would
I’d leave out the part where I broke Your heart
In the garden’s shade, fix the mess I made
If I could, I would
Eve:
If I could, close my eyes and then
Dance around again; if I could, I would
Be who You adored, why did I need more?
When beauty was not trained to hide behind my shame
If I could, I would.
Chorus:
Can You hear us cry?
Wishing we could turn back time
To feel Your breath when branches move
Take one more sunset walk with You
Must each tomorrow hold
Such brokenness untold?
Can’t imagine how You could
See all of me and say it’s good
Adam:
If I could hold one memory
It would surely be how You walked with us
Eve:
I’d go back in time, un-tell my first lie
And let Love’s injury heal in spite of me
Chorus
It is good. It is good.
You still love us more than we believed You could
Could there be something more?
Will it ever be the way it was before?
It's so sad and yet it ends with a question that's a foreshadowing of hope and the Lamb to come because the answer is yes and yes. I love the repentant spirit of the song, how Adam and Eve want a re-do. I feel like that sometimes. I would go back a few years and re-do a few things given the opportunity. How could God look at all of me and still love me? Justification. Such a big word with a simple meaning. God looks down into my heart and says "it is good" because of that one little word and that one Perfect Sacrifice. And tomorrow doesn't hold untold brokenness because of that debt paid. That makes things seem so much brighter.
Yeah! Shout out on Victoria's blog!
